Fun in the sun (and cold)

Lately, it has been a bit cold here (9 straight days with temps in the double digits below zero)! After that long, you take any chance you get to move around and have some fun outside. Saturday (1/21/12) the weather teased us, the sun was out and the forecast called for temps in the positive single digits. Party on the Ice!

Well, the sun was out, but those warm temperatures... they didn't come until later in the day when the clouds rolled in. We used the glowing celestial orb to warm us for some fun on the ice over at Westchester Lagoon. We met with the Calls, and skated around for a bit, until Konrad was cold (but I really think he wanted a nap). Eventually the skating ended and alternative ice transportation methods took over.

Kacy pulls Katy with a hockey stick. Really we wanted to clean off the ice.
Ashley sliding for home...
Konrad really wants a nap! He also likes spinning around really fast. Its amazing how fast you can get a sled to spin as you skate in a circle.
This winter has been extreme (according to long-time Anchoragians). The past week and a half was very unseasonably cold, and everyone says that it isn't usual that it lasts this long. The 90+ inches of snow are more than we usually see in an entire winter, and we're only half way through. I guess if we can make it through this winter, we really don't have anything to complain about in future ones. We've been through the worst that Anchorage can throw at us (knock on wood). We will see... however, I don't see how people in the rest of the State endure -50 temps for months straight???? On the plus side, the sun is shining brightly now, and it doesn't feel like the eternal sunset. It really wasn't that dark for that long, and we never even locked ourselves in a closet.

  1. Send some of that snow down to us! We are severely lacking. February in Fairbanks is brutal, we always got the -45 - -50's for weeks and weeks. And it's a bit darker up there. Anchorage sounds lovely, I wish we could join you!
